Aquarium Care
-
Tank Size: Minimum 400 liters (at least 150 cm in length).
-
Setup: Use fine sand on the bottom and a large number of rocks to provide hiding places and visual barriers. High oxygen levels and stable water chemistry are critical.

Water Parameters: pH must be between 7.5 and 9.5, with a constant temperature between 25–27°C (not to exceed 29°C).
-
Social Structure: Best kept in large groups (15–25 fish) to distribute aggression. Maintain a ratio of at least 3–4 females per male.
Diet & Breeding
-
Diet: Strictly herbivorous. They graze on algae (aufwuchs) in the wild. In an aquarium, they should be fed high-quality spirulina flakes and must avoid high-protein foods to prevent "bloat."
-
Breeding: They are maternal mouthbrooders. Females carry 6 to 16 large eggs (5–7 mm) for approximately 24–26 days.
